Projects undertaken as a part of the IB Program
This year I had opportunity to be involved with various projects right from their inception to the process of fine tuning of a project, critiquing, observing, taking sessions and feedback and reflection process. I am glad that all team members involved me in their projects, and i had opportunities like taking a session, critiquing work done by students, for reflections and in some ways contributing to the entire process of Project Based Learning.
Annuities
A math Project by Ms Poorvi Doshi, Annuities were dealt uniquely through a project. In this project Students of grade 11 IBDP studied concepts of math integrated with English, Introduction and review of Insurance companies and their plans and students presented their learning to the support staff and insurance plans for them. The project helped me confirm that insurance is integral part of my learning process!! and i haven't forgotten the basics! Taking session for students and giving feedback for their presentations, or facilitating their session with support staff was good learning.

School Canteen- Entrepreneurship Skills in Studnets
More Popularly “Bon Appétit” was a school canteen set up, owned and run by Students of IGCSE Enterprise. The canteen aimed to provide the school community with nutritious and affordable food. Students were involved in every aspect of the process. This project was unique as students parents and teacher had collaborated for better options at school canteen and for students to get introduced to idea of being an entrepreneur! and teacher facilitated.
It was interesting in getting involved in this project at various levels, be it for facilitating a session for students for ideas, with parents for partnership, or post project being part of the reflections.
student learning and their approach towards 'business skills' was a good learning for me!! Yes! kids in Gujarat are genetically engineered to be entrepreneurs!!!!

Global Perspective Projects
Cambridge IGCSE Global Perspectives is a groundbreaking new course that is cross-curricular, stretching across traditional subject boundaries. It taps into the way today’s students enjoy learning − including group work, seminars, projects, and working with other students around the world. The emphasis is on developing the ability to think critically about a range of global issues where there is always more than one point of view.
A student exposed, introduced and sensitized to this qualification form ICE ; Global Perspectives will:
This year students researched and explored following topics, aspects as they were exposed to GP
Interacting with students at each level, from research to their final presentation is indeed a journey and journey in which studnets and facilitators, both have grown. It was my previledge to get involved in this project from the very beginning till the final assessment.

Sciences involved in Navratri Festival
This Group 4 project for IBDP was our first step to integrate Sciences and Culture. Navratri is the longest Dance festival, 9 days of dancing across Gujarat and India. This period coincides with religious belief, and energy that fascinates and unites people of all ages. This festival is for worship goddess Durga and people fast for nine days, and as part of celebrations, dance! At TGES Navratri is celebrated uniquely under the banner of Galaxy Garbi Mandal ( GGM).
As part of this project students were to review Chemistry, Physics and Biology involved in this festival
Please follow the link below for the details of this project.
http://group4.u4.org/
Chemistry :-
Food Chemistry, Dyes, Metallurgy were the topics we connected with the festival of celebration. As part of fasting people eat only fruits and intake of grains( proteins ) is very nil or limited during this period.
http://g4chem.webs.com/
Physics:-
The GGM, involves a unique setting. It has stage, performers, and visitors!! this project involved students looking at the set up of GGM for lighting, sound, and the best seat in the open air auditorium for best view, best sound and most comfortable seat. Students had opportunity to work with various aspects. Following variables were considered.
1) light Intensity
2) Sound Intensity
3) Distance
4) Temperature
5) Visibility Level

Biology:-
Following variables were considered for this project.
Heart rate:
The heart rate increases during Navratri. Due to extensive exercise your exercising muscles demand more oxygen and energy.
Oxygen saturation:
Oxygen level tends to remain constant during Navratri. This is because other factors like heart rate increases to repay the oxygen debt created by the body.
Fat Content:
The fat% of the body decreases during Navratri. The underlying reason why body fat percentage goes down is because of weight loss. This can be achieved by burning more calories then consumed every day.
Blood Pressure:
During exercise, the systolic pressure increases progressively as the cardiovascular system attempts to deliver more oxygen to the working muscle
Height:
The height does not tend to increase due to short term exercise. And that is why we haven't noticed an increase increase in height at all.
Body Mass Index:
BMI stands for body mass index and is used to identify if you are at a healthy weight.
Waist-to Hip ratio:
The waist to hip ratio decreases when compared to the readings before Navratri. This happens because as the weight of the participants decreases, the fat percentage also tends to decrease. This results in a decrease in the waist to hip ratio.
Weight:
Burning more calories + Eating fewer calories = Weight loss. As we exercise we tend to burn calories which results in weight loss and we have found out that all girl's have considerably decreased their weight due to day and night practices during Navratri.
